eEnergy and Rathdown School

eEnergy supporting Rathdown School to improve their energy and lighting functions. Through efficient lighting audits and monitoring, eEnergy provided an improvement plan to help reduce energy consumption and lighting costs by 67%, which is an expected carbon reduction of 468 tCO2e.

About Rathdown School

Rathdown School, in South Dublin, is leading day and boarding school for girls aged between 3-18 years old with approximately 430 pupils.  In March 2022,  they announced their intention to move towards being a co-education school, expecting a phased introduction of boys to the Dublin school for the very first time in 2023.

With this growth in mind, they wanted to improve functions within the school, with better quality lighting to help pupils with efficiency, concentration and lessen eyestrain.

The challenge

Rathdown School wanted to upgrade their older, inefficient lighting without any financial strain or any disruption to the schools daily functions.

The solution

Working with eEnergy, Rathdown School upgraded their lighting with no upfront cost. eEnergy invested 100% of the capital cost associated with the design, supply, installation, operation and maintenance of the new energy-efficient lighting upgrade. The upgrade led to average energy savings of 67% annually and a total carbon reduction of 46.8 tonnes each year.

The results

  • Reduction in lighting costs 67%
  • 468 tCO2 Carbon reduction over 10 years
  • € 17,303 Year 1 gross savings
  • € 120,505 10 year gross savings
  • Pre lighting change – € 25,642
  • Post lighting change – € 8,339

When we first met eEnergy, we were astonished to learn we could reduce our energy use by 67% with an LED lighting upgrade. It has made a massive difference to our lighting quality and energy costs.
