A funded solar solution to cut energy costs and generate clean energy
Halesowen College is a further and higher education college serving over 4,500 learners across several campuses in the West Midlands. The college offers a wide range of courses for different age groups, from vocational courses and apprenticeships, to A-Levels and university-level courses. The college was under pressure to reduce costs and also wanted to take steps towards a more sustainable future, including installing solar PV.
The Challenge.
With a range of course requirements and facilities, the college has high energy use. The college sought to install a solar PV system but faced high installation and maintenance costs. In order to overcome these challenges, Halesowen approached eEnergy seeking a turnkey, fully-funded solution.
The Solution.
eEnergy’s expert solar team jumped into action, managing the design, procurement, and installation of high-quality solar PV technology. The 633.36 kWp system comprises 1,392 solar panels across 7 buildings at the Whittingham Road campus.
An enhanced-DBS checked team carried out an investment-grade survey to ensure the subsequent system was perfectly sized for site needs and consumption. The design team adhered to all regulatory compliance regarding positioning of the solar PV arrays, whilst considering shading and roof orientation to maximise yields. During the surveys, eEnergy’s team noted potential issues with bird nesting, so the design included the supply and installation of bird mesh.
The expert installation team then took care of the installation and commissioning of the system for Halesowen, whilst minimising the impact on day-to-day operations.
A comprehensive ongoing maintenance package ensures the college’s solar system remains hassle-free. Ongoing support includes daily system monitoring, monthly performance reporting, full warranty, call out and a performance guarantee, together with an annual report.
The Results.
The deployment of solar PV is forecast to deliver transformational benefits for the college meaning they can generate their own clean energy and reduce reliance on purchasing expensive energy from the grid to significantly cut energy costs and reduce carbon emissions.
